History
This century house is located on Highway 3 (Main Street) in
Old Humberstone Village, Port Colborne, right on the old weir canal.
The house was built in 1896, complete with horse barns in the
back. The horses pulled barges down the canal and Weir Road was
originally named Tow Path for this reason.
The large garden in the back contains ancient lilacs and this
along with the old canal help create part of the century houses' charm.
Present
The property was purchased in March of 1999 by
David & Mary Reeves for Mary's Enchanted Garden. The house
consisted of nineteen rooms and two store fronts, with living
quarters in the back.
This back section - with its many rooms and
large yard, was perfect for the Enchanted Garden. The gardens were
planted, paths made, ponds dug and a gazebo was built.
Mary's Enchanted Garden opened its purple door
in mid June of 1999.
